Judge Simon Cowell was initially not a fan of the vocal trio The Kingdom Tenors’ choice of song, “You Raise Me Up,” by Josh Groban when they tried out for the ninth season of Britain’s Got Talent.
On the surface, the Kingdom Tenors were a collection of men that were easily written off. They were all quite attractive. The group’s clothes gave them a particularly polished appearance. The audience was swooning with women. It is obvious that Simon believed them to be a group of attractive faces and untalented singers.
Their selection of music didn’t assist at all. According to the lead singer, they chose Josh Groban’s epic ballad, “You Raise Me Up.” Simon gave an eye roll. What a corny song selection! At that time, expectations were somewhat low. Then they started singing.
The arrangement by the Kingdom Tenors was exquisite. Josh Groban’s strong vocals have elevated the already fantastic song to an iconic status. However, the Kingdom Tenors managed to revitalize it in some way. The harmony of their voices was flawless.
Perhaps it had such raw strength because of the many voices. The spiritual overtones of the hymn struck a deeper chord than before. Everybody in the house was happy!
Simon had to acknowledge his mistake. That alone is a tremendous accomplishment! He expressed his admiration for their singing prowess and expressed his amazement. Clearly, the Kingdom Tenors were appreciative. Not everyone has the ability to silence Simon Cowell, after all!
