Beth Dutton is BACK.
Yellowstone is officially coming to a close, however, the Dutton story is far from over. We have a number of prequels in the works, as well as some modern-day spinoffs, but when rumors started flying that Yellowstone might continue on for a 6th season, I think everybody was a little skeptical. Although, Paramount constantly referring to the Series Finale as the Season Finale gave fans hope that it wasn’t going to be the end.
And then, last week the news came… it was reported by Deadline that Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser would be reprising their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler in a modern day spinoff series that would also feature some more of the current cast.
A number of fans are ready to close the book on Yellowstone, especially given how rushed this final season has felt, but others weren’t quite to let the characters go. And it turns out, Kelly wasn’t either. And now, she has officially confirmed it herself.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Kelly said:
“Hi, I’m so deep into another role at the moment about another land worth fighting for in the UK .. but across the pond the finale is happening tonight of the show. Whatever the future holds this is the ending of the show we have been making for the past 7 years.”
Words cannot convey how I feel about the people I got to work and create with over the seasons. I have made true life long friends. The support from the crew and the trust and dedication of the cast. The words I got to say and the woman I got to inhabit.
It changed me. It lit me up. It challenged me in every way possible and I will forever be grateful for it. For Taylor Sheridan who took a chance on me and continued to write her in ways I got to feel on fire as an actor. Thank you Taylor.
Thank you the audience we made it for, for being on this journey with us . We really cared about making something special for you all … Enjoy tonight, get your tissues and your drinks.”
And while that alone was enough to get you in your feels, Kelly responded to a comment from a fan, CONFIRMING that she will be starring in the spinoff series:
“Thank you for sharing this. You don’t have to be finished… a new chapter is happening. I wasn’t ready to let her go either … thank you.”
And… there’s a very good reason why they chose a spinoff series.
If you’re familiar with the Yellowstone universe, or even the Taylor Sheridan universe, you know that all of his shows stream on Paramount+ except Yellowstone. And that’s because Paramount+ wasn’t a thing when the show began back in 2017, and they inked a deal with Peacock to be the streaming partner of the show.
So simply put, if they were to continue with a Yellowstone Season 6, Peacock would own the streaming rights. If they start a new show, even if it starts some of the same cast, they can bring it under their own roof… Paramount+.
